Who I am
Hi! I’m Mary MacPhee — lifelong fabric lover, proud Ottawa local, happily married since 1995, and mom to two awesome young adults who have learned never to ask, “Do you really need more fabric?”
Sewing has been my happy place for over 25 years. It’s where I recharge, unwind, and occasionally lose track of time while surrounded by colourful cotton. If you ever visit my home or cottage, you’ll quickly notice a theme: quilts everywhere. Beds, couches, chairs, quilt ladders… if it sits still long enough, I’ll probably cover it with something I’ve sewn.
Of course, sewing is a gloriously expensive hobby. A few years ago, I started looking for ways to save a little money — mostly so I could justify buying even more fabric. That’s when I stitched up my very first set of reusable kitchen towels. They worked so well that we practically stopped buying paper towels altogether. More savings meant more fabric, which felt like the universe giving me a high‑five.
I used that first set for years, right up until our kitchen renovation three years ago. Naturally, a new kitchen deserved new towels that matched the décor. (It’s called balance.)
Friends and family started asking for their own sets, and before long, I realized I wasn’t the only one who loved practical, eco‑friendly, handmade things that also happen to be really pretty. And just like that, Fabric Fun Zone was born — a place where I get to turn my fabric obsession into cozy, colourful, sustainable goodies for your home.
Every towel, cozy, and textile treasure is made by hand, with care, intention, and a whole lot of joy. I’m so excited to share them with you.
Thanks for being here — and for supporting handmade. It means more than you know.
